The Exhibition @ Corridor showcases student projects
BSSA conducted a design workshop for the first and second year students in the first 2 months of the academic year, which culminated in the The Exhibition @ Corridor that showcased their works. This exhibition was attended by students of architecture colleges and eminent architects all over Mumbai.

Design Workshop Exhibition (DWE) 2012
Based on Kevin Kelly’s “Out of Control”, the Second Year Design Workshop culminates an eight week investigation into the phenomenon of collective intelligence in nature. Species demonstrate the “hive mind” through simple interactions between
individual organisms at a local scale to perform complex global operations.

Students studied a variety of single cellular and multi cellular organisms in plants and animals. Specific collective behaviors (such as defense, propagation, foraging, locomotion etc) were documented through diagrams based on the parameters (such as sight, structure, communication, linkages etc.) that define the interaction between the individual organisms. Patterns of interactions were evolved through a process of generative models analyzing the parameter. Selected projects were built at an experiential scale and populated through the BSSA Corridor.

Second year workshop: selection phase

Foundation Workshop 2012

Assemblies and Dis-assemblies -
The First Year Foundation Workshop focuses on the concept of assemblies and dis-assemblies. In the first phase of the workshop, machines were procured and disassembled into its individual components. Each component performs a simple, specific function such that when they are assembled, they can perform complex and efficient operations as a whole.

This process was documented through a series of exploded drawings and animations. The second phase documents a part of the city from Vile Parle Station till Juhu Beach. Activities performed in this stretch were analysed as a series of repetitive processes that form a part of a complex mechanism that is the City. The site is viewed as a number of simple components that are assembled to perform like a complex machine.

As a part of academics, every year B.Arch students visit a place of architectural importance either in the country or abroad (Aurangabad, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Hampi, Ahmadabad, Srilanka, Udaipur, and Jaipur, Delhi Agra etc.) These trips help students experience climate, lifestyle and architecture at historic sites which forms an important part of their academic course work.
